[HHL gGmbH - 19.03.2013] At a festive event, 85 students signed the matriculation book of HHL Leipzig Graduate School of Management yesterday. During his opening speech, Samuel Kermelk, HHL Alumnus and Managing Director of HeiterBlick GmbH, a specialized supplier of trams, said: "HHL is the best business school the new students could choose. They will have the opportunity to study intensively the subjects of business administration as well as modern management approaches here, and therefore lay the foundations for a solid knowledge base which will enable them to act successfully in the business world. With its network of Professors, Alumni and students, HHL offers an active network which makes it possible for the studies and later for the profession to become a passion."
He adds: "It should not, however, go unrecognized that the future success of the developing business elite is achieved through hard work. To create values for oneself and society there cannot just be representatives of the new "Generation Y". I know from my own experience that an HHL student has a positive attitude when it comes to work and performance and therefore actively preserves the spirit of entrepreneurship."

HHL Dean Prof. Dr. Pinkwart said: "We welcome HHL's new students. You made the right choice, as you will study at a university-level institution whose mission is based on exemplary teaching and quality research. The international HHL community makes it possible for you to extend your personal as well as your professional network to achieve a global perspective. At HHL you will experience a truly entrepreneurial spirit, with more than 130 company start-ups from HHL graduates." With respect to the development of study programs the HHL Dean explains: "With its part-time M.Sc. HHL proves to be a successful innovator in the German scientific system. Our part-time MBA also clearly shows that the demand for high-quality management courses is growing. In the light of rapid technical progress and economic structural changes, the continuing education of working professionals is growing in importance."

The first business school established in Germany set a new record in the number of entering international students in its part-time MBA Program. The 42 participants of this two-year English-language management program represent nine nationalities (Brazilian, Chinese, German, Indian, Israeli, Italian, Peruvian, Swedish and Swiss). The students, all of whom are executive managers or future executives, have an average of eight years of work experience and come from a range of diverse companies all over Germany such as Axel Springer, Continental, Deutsche Bahn, Deloitte, Johnson&Johnson, Siemens, Otto Group, but also from regional enterprises such as enviaM and Breuninger Leipzig.

Continuing again this summer term the Leipziger manager forge is enrolling new students in the full-time M.Sc. in Management in addition to the September start of the program, in order to meet the individual demands and career wishes of its students. On top of a term abroad at one of over 100 universities partnered with HHL, the curriculum of this two-year program also encompasses an internship.

After yesterday's first so-called "Welcome Day", today will be all about a topic of high social as well as economic relevance for the students: acting responsibly. The aim is to communicate the importance of the issues of sustainability and responsibility for entrepreneurial life and the university training from day one.

Before getting into their daily routine at HHL, the students will look at the topic of "Corporate Responsibility" from the perspective of society as a whole on their second "Welcome Day". In the face of waning societal acceptance of a market economy based order, the new students will have the opportunity to contemplate how governments, the economy and public as well as private institutions can work together to regain the people's trust in companies and the market economy. After receiving some insight into the topic from a representative of the Federal Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs and an employee of the Wittenberg Center for Global Ethics (WCGE), the students will work in groups on specific questions and present their results. The event takes place at the WCGE in Lutherstadt Wittenberg, and the Dr. Werner Jackstädt Chair of Economic and Business Ethics of HHL is providing the program content.
