[The World Bank - 06.02.2015] World Bank Hosts Training on Disaster Risk Reduction

World Bank in Mongolia, together with the National Disaster Management Agency (NEMA) and Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (DRMS), hosted a training program on "Disaster Risk Reduction February 3-6, 2015. Over 30 participants from NEMA, National Security Council, government agencies, and city and aimag administrations participated in the training to learn about mainstreaming of disaster risk reduction in development planning as a means to reduce disaster risks.
This training is part of a larger program by World Bank to support the Government of Mongolia in its efforts to mitigate and manage the impacts of natural disasters. The program focuses on strengthening institutional coordination and increasing professional capacities among agencies under the Improving Disaster Risk Management project.
The Improving Disaster Risk Management project aims to transfer an understanding of risk reduction in order to, ultimately, develop coordination systems and build capacity across agencies and levels of government to better manage the risks associated with disasters. This includes the implementation of risk identification, risk reduction, emergency preparedness, and financial resilience initiatives.
"Mongolia is periodically exposed to natural hazards such as flood, dzud, and severe winter weather conditions and is increasingly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change" said Country Manager James Anderson. "Through this project, the World Bank is supporting Mongolias efforts to build resilience and identify gaps so that resource plans and programs can be better aligned with needs."
