Global Solar Energy supplies big part of production to Iscom, Energyka and B.A. Energie

Berlin, September 23, 2011 – Manufacturer of flexible solar modules Global Solar Energy today announced that it has signed supply agreements with Italian roof specialists Iscom S.p.A., Energyka S.r.l. and B.A. Energie S.r.l. In the future, a significant part of the modules produced by Global Solar at its Berlin-Adlershof site will be sold to the company’s new contract partners in Italy.

"Demand for our new module is extremely high. The market for flexible solar modules is currently growing quickly as they are the best solution for roofs with weight limitations. Our PowerFLEX BIPV modules are of particular interest to the Italian market. They allow operators of photovoltaic systems to benefit from higher feed-in-tariffs”, explains Jean-Noel Poirier, Senior Vice President of Marketing
Business Development at Global Solar Energy. As the company´s modules are classified as integrated and innovative, plant operators earn the highest feed-in-tariffs of up to 42.7 cents per kilowatt hour. The higher funding is intending to promote building-integrated photovoltaics (BIPV). "In Iscom, Energyka and B.A. Energie, we have gained partners that possess many years of experience in integrating innovative materials and solar modules into roofing systems,” states Poirier. Global Solar has already received further enquiries for its flexible modules from roofing material manufacturers and project planners in the US and Japan.

Thanks to their low weight of just 3.5 kilograms per square meter, the thin-film modules from Global Solar Energy are particularly well-suited to industrial roofs, which are unable to bear high loads. After being rolled onto the roof surface, they are simply affixed into position and require no support frames or stands. The roof membrane is not penetrated and no additional wind loads are produced. Each measuring 5.74 x 0.5 meters, the new modules have a high power density of up to 300 Watts. High module efficiencies of up to 12.6% are achieved thanks to a unique technology based on Copper, Indium, Gallium and diSelenide.

"We decided on Global Solar modules as they are currently the most efficient flexible modules on the market. A crucial point for us is that they can be installed quickly on the roof and are particularly well-suited for building integration,” explains Mauro Menegoli, CEO of Iscom.

Iscom has specialized in metal roofing systems since 1970 and integrates a range of photovoltaic solutions into its own roof products. The company, which performs all its own research and development, is headquartered in Verona and has an international network of partners spanning Europe, the Middle East, South America, North Africa and Asia.

Energyka develops solar roof solutions with particularly promising materials in partnership with leading roofing companies. Its solar roof 'Rescador' integrates the flexible Global Solar module as an architectural element and has obtained TUV certification. The company is preparing further solar system solutions on TPO and bitumen roofs. Head office is located in Montebelluna near Venice and it has additional branches in France and the UK.

Together with leading metal roof supplier Alubel S.p.A., B.A. Energie develops innovative BIPV roofing systems that are particularly suited to building integration. With headquarters in Busto Arsizio, in Lombardy, the company oversees solar projects from planning to completion. Alubel has more than 60 years of experience in metal roofing and protective covering. Having 7 factories and several branch offices all around the world, the company employs a total of 200 people.

About Global Solar Energy

Since its founding in 1996, Global Solar has emerged as the leader in flexible Copper Indium Gallium diSelenide (CIGS) thin-film solar cell technology. Global Solar Energy’s solar modules are lightweight and highly flexible, which makes them equally suited for building integrated applications and solar power stations or foldable solar chargers.

The company headquarters are located in Tucson, Arizona. The Tuscon production facilities have a capacity of 40 megawatts (MW) while the subsidiary in Berlin-Adlershof has a production capacity of 35 MW. The company currently employs 300 people at the two sites.
