The World Bank Group President Dr. Jim Yong Kim will arrive in Ethiopia on Monday, October 27, 2014 for a two day visit to discuss key development priorities with government officials and development partners.
Dr. Kim will be joined on the visit by Mr. Ban Ki-moon the United Nations Secretary-General, and other development leaders. The visit will launch a new Horn of Africa Initiative to support regional economic development, peace and security in the eight countries of the region.
Dr. Kim and Mr. Ban will hold joint meetings with Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam Dessalegn and Heads of bilateral agencies as well as Ambassadors representing countries in the Horn of Africa to discuss how the two organizations can promote inclusive growth and shared prosperity in the region.
Before leaving Ethiopia, the two leaders will also meet members of the media at a press conference on Monday, October 27 at 18:00.
Ethiopia is one of the founding members of the World Bank Group, which it joined in 1945. Ethiopias current portfolio consists of 25 projects with $6 billion in commitments making it the largest country program in the region, covering energy, roads, agriculture, water supply and sanitation, education, health, social protection, social safety nets, and other programs. The private sector arm of WBG, IFC, is providing more than $200 million for a combination of investment and advisory services, and plans to invest an additional $300 million. WBG also has a major knowledge program supporting both Government and private sector entities in addressing key analytical challenges
